Wi-Fi: A No Show?

Among the Android phones that Acer has launched in this year’s Mobile Phone Congress, the beTouch E110 seems to be the most affordable one with only subpar specs thrown in. Since it is likely that Acer is marketing this particular device towards those who are looking to kick off their smart phone collection, the specs are forgivable. What is not is the lack of something that should be a standard for new releases: Wi-Fi connectivity.

For a phone that markets itself as a Web-connected smart phone, the lack of a Wi-Fi is no doubt a huge misstep for Acer. The phone itself seems to be an affordable package, especially with the number of cheap deals from mobile carriers to choose from these days. The lack of a Wi-Fi does pose a problem for those who get this phone solely for internet browsing so a decent data plan is a must.

An Office and a Living Room in Your Pocket

Despite the fact that the E110 was meant to be a budget phone, it does pack some noteworthy features both for work and play. Much like its WinMo cousin, the neoTouch P400, Acer’s E110 comes equipped with a Pocket Office which comes with OneNote, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a PDF viewer. For those who need to record notes, a voice memo feature is also thrown in to top off the list.

Built-in Facebook and Twidroid apps as well as other social network integration apps make connecting to friends easy. One of these apps is the internet radio app dubbed as “Spinlets”. This gives users the freedom to stream songs by major music labels on the go and share these with friends and family through social networking sites such as Facebook or through email messages. The Acer avatar application called as the “Acer UrFooz” lets users create their likeness in a 2D format and share their creations on their social network site account profiles.

Optimized Hardware for Internet Use

The E110 carries the Google Android version 1.5 “Cupcake” OS. While older, it is stable and it does have a user-friendly interface. The beTouch E110 is equipped with an ST Ericsson PNX6715 416 MHz processor. It has Bluetooth (version 2.0 with A2DP) connectivity and is capable of connecting to 2G, 3G and EDGE networks.

There is no question that the Acer beTouch E110 is a standard phone for the masses. It does a great job in terms of its intended purpose which is to browse the internet and be a device for capable of basic work/school functions. For those looking for more to fiddle around with and more customization options though, they are probably better off looking at either the Liquid e for a high-end Google Android device or the P400 for a WinMo OS.

Das Handy ist für diesen Preis sehr zu empfehlen . Was für mich ein Handy haben sollte erfüllt dieses Teil fast perfekt.
1, 7-10 Tage mit einer Akkuladung
2, Super zu bedienen mit meinen Wüschtelfingern
3, Sehr übersichtlich und verständlich
4, liegt gut in der Hand und ist sehr leicht und relativ klein
5, Alarm ist Top und man versteht sein gegenüber super
6, schaut gut aus

Was mir nicht gut gefällt daher 1 Stern weniger :
1, Manchmal muß man sehr genau den Punkt am Touch finden um weiter zu kommen
2, Fotos oder Videos am Abend gehen garnicht
3, Die Widgets müssen sehr umständlich von Bildschirm gelöscht oder verschoben werden

Gleich vornweg – das Handy hat einen hohen Spaß- und Suchtfaktor. Aus meiner Sicht ist alles dran, was ein Handy heute haben muss – oder auch nicht. Wer nur telefonieren und hin und wieder eine SMS schreiben möchte, der findet definitiv auch eine wesentlich preiswertere Variante mit weniger Schnickschnack.
Wer aber Wert auf die kleinen Feinheiten legt, dem empfehle ich dieses Handy ausnahmslos.

Bei einem Freund konnte ich es mit dem iPhon vergleichen. Also was Sensibilität und Funktionalität des Displays angeht schafft es kein Handy von LG bis Samsung auch nur annähernd mit dem abgebissenen Obst mitzuhalten. Aber dann sehe ich ein Handy, welches viel zu schwer, viel zu groß und ständig ans Netz muss (jeden Tag) – nein danke.

Positive Aspekte des Jet8000:

- ein hammermäßiges Display, was einfach nur Spaß macht anzusehen
- liegt sehr gut in der Hand – man möchte es nicht mehr weglegen
- intuitive Menüführung, in den Anwendungen sind logische Schnelltasten in der Menüzeile, die zusätzlich noch mit Optionen ergänzt werden – aber einige Dinge musste ich mir trotzdem erst in der Bedienungsanleitung suchen
- Die Kamera ist mit Abstand das Beste, was ich je bei einem Handy gesehen und bedient habe -sensationelle Bilder auch später auf dem PC. Richtig abgefahren sind die Videos – einfach Super-Qualität!!
- gute bis sehr gute Klangqualität beim Telefonieren, auch beim Lautsprecher ist der Teilnehmer sehr gut zu verstehen (bei meinem Samsung U-900 wurde ich diesbezüglich nicht wirklich verwöhnt – grottenschlechte und blechernde Stimmen, die ich teilweise nicht einmal einer Person zuordnen konnte)
- SMS, E-Mail, Internet – alles kein Problem; ich hatte da ein wenig Sorge, weil die Tastatur ja fehlt… Fehlanzeige, entweder Handy- oder QWERTZ-Tastatur machen die Texteingabe unkompliziert und es macht richtig Laune!!

hier mal ein paar Aufzählungen der kleinen Spielereien:

- Top 5-Kontakte als Widget (Apps-ähnlich)in Bildern direkt auf dem Bildschirm, per Druck ist Anruf, Video-Anruf und Nachricht möglich
- Bei einem plötzlichen und unpassenden Anruf, Handy einfach umdrehen und hinlegen – schon ist es still
- 3D-Media-Würfel durch kurzen Druck auf rechte untere Wippe
- Wenn ich mein Handy schüttel, verschwinden alle Widgets vom Desktop zurück in ihre Liste
- Multitask-fähig, bei mehreren Anwendungen drückt man länger die mittler Taste (Menü-Taste) und man kann virtuell zu einer andere Oberfläche wechseln
- bei gesperrtem Handy kann ich durch eine Zeicheneingabe z.B. M oder T einen Anruf tätigen, wenn ich diesem Zeichen einen Kontakt zugeordnet habe. Entsperren funktionert auch auf diese Weise (optional)
u.v.m.

Neutrale Aspekte, weil nicht wirklich nervend:

- warum ich gleich 3 Desktop-Bildschirme brauch, konnte mir keiner und ich mir selbst auch nicht erklären
- Bildersuchlauf durch kippen des Handys ist ne schöne Geschichte, aber trotz 800 MHz hakt und ruckelt es etwas
- Fettfinger-Abdrücke an allen Seiten des Kommunikationsgerätes – mit einem weichen Tuch wird ein wenig Abhilfe geleistet (Klarlack lässt grüßen…)
- Display hat nach meinem Empfinden leichte Schwankungen in der Sensibilität – mal gehts mit leichtem Druck, manchmal erst mit etwas mehr
- Betreiber-Logo muss nach jedem Neustart in die Widget-Liste geschoben werden – auf jedem Desktop!!

Einzig negativer Punkt und deshalb nur 4 Sterne:

- der Akku ist mit zur Zeit 2,5 Tagen zwar mehr als doppelt so lang am Start als beim iPhon, aber weit unter meinen Erwartungen geblieben.
Hey, wir fliegen zum Mond – suchen auf dem Mars in irgendwelchen Eisschichten nach Formen von Leben, aber einen 5-7 Tage lang arbeitenden Akku in einem Smartphon, das schaffen wir nicht. Ich werde das Gefühl nicht los, dass wir hier gewaltig an der Nase herum geführt werden…

Alles in allem bin ich aber sehr zufrieden mit meinem kleinen Jet und möchte es auch nicht mehr missen.
Absolute Kaufempfehlung für diejenigen, die ein vollwertiges Touchscreen-Handy zu einem akzeptablen Preis in vollen Zügen genießen möchten.
